In May join us in Bilbao to walk along the Camino del Norte beside the Bay of Biscay.
If you have already walked another Camino trail and are keen to re-live this ‘once in a lifetime’ experience – then the Camino del Norte is for you! If you are an active walker who appreciates extraordinary scenery and wants to enjoy the pleasures that the Camino can bring – then you don’t need to look any further!
For those already familiar with long distance walking our tour along the Camino del Norte provides a great alternative to other less challenging trails. Commencing in Bilbao in the Basque country our 15 day journey takes us into Galicia via the more remote coastal regions of Cantabria and Asturias. Daily walking distances are a little longer than the average of our other Camino tours but the rewards are multiplied!
The highlights of this pilgrim pathway are strikingly varied. The Camino del Norte is situated amidst some of Spain’s most spectacular scenery. On the left are the distant snow-capped peaks of the Picos de Europa, the highest mountain range in northern Spain. On the right is the azure Cantabrian Sea. We follow yellow Waymarkers along cliff-top paths, sandy beach trails and shady forest tracks, beside grassy fields, streams and wetlands. Our pathway passes through innumerable rural hamlets and charming fishing villages, with church spires regularly appearing in the distance.
Part way along this route the Camino del Norte meets the Camino Primitivo. At this point we head south towards the historic World Heritage city of Oviedo. The tour ends in Santiago de Compostela and includes three days walking through the rugged and picturesque Finisterre peninsula. See itinerary.
