It’s been worth the wait!  The itinerary for our new ‘Camino with a Difference!’ guided tour from southern Spain, along the ancient Roman road and connecting with the Camino Portugues – has now been posted.  This tour combines travel through the captivating region of Andalusia with its fascinating Islamic heritage and magnificent architecture; visits to historic Roman sites along the Rua de la Plata; and the opportunity to walk through picturesque countryside along the Camino Portugues to Santiago de Compostela.  The 15 day tour is being conducted in the European Spring (May) and again in Autumn (October).

Commencing in Granada, one of the jewels of medieval Europe, we visit the white washed villages of the Alpujarras.  From here we travel to Cordoba, once seat of the Islamic caliphate, then onwards to Seville with its vibrant culture and the chance to see flamenco dancing at its best!  After immersing ourselves in the region’s fascinating history and visiting notable sites such as the Alhambra, the Mezquita and the Alcazar we travel northwards through rugged Extremadura in the footsteps of the early Romans.  Time is spent in ancient Merida and Caceres en route to the beautiful sandstone city of Salamanca, home to one of the oldest universities in Western Europe.

The final stage of our tour takes us to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Oporto, with an opportunity to walk along one of the most charming sections of the Camino Portugues on our way to Santiago de Compostela.   Time is spent visiting attractive towns such as Barcelos (home to one of the liveliest markets in Portugal), Ponte de Lima with its historic bridge and medieval Tui situated on the border between Portugal and Spain.
