Walking the Camino: The countdown is now on…

Tomorrow is a big day! Most members of our Camino group will be travelling to Portugal in readiness for our journey. Many will be making the long distance haul from Australia. I am more fortunate, having spent last last few weeks studying Spanish in the majestic city of Granada. This proved to be an amazing experience. I had the good fortune to live with a very friendly Spanish family whose casa is situated in the white washed, winding, cobblestoned streets of the historic Arabic quarter of Albayzin. With the jewel in the crown of this beautiful city, the ancient citadel of the Alhambra with its brilliant, light filled, Isamic architecture, looking down on me from the neighboring hillside – what more could I ask for?

The weather has been cool in the evenings with the snow capped Sierra Nevada in close proximity.  The days have been varied weather wise, with the typical Spring contrast of glorious sunny days interspersed with light rain and the occasional downpour. A short sojourn on the south east coast in San Jose, a tiny pueblo situated in the rocky, remote nature reserve of Cabo de Gata was a pleasant change the more hectic pace of the city.

So now, on to Lisbon!  I feel confident that all the plans are now in place to make our journey memorable – a time for getting away from the daily routine of everyday life, to relax, recreate and, importantly, to have FUN, in the company of a small group of like minded travellers.
