Who has not trod
A different Way
An opportunity lost
Our June 2015 Tour along the Camino Portuguese is now at an end. As always, the journey to the historic pilgrimage destination of Santiago de Compostela has been a patchwork of colourful landscapes and memorable experiences.
But finding words to accurately convey to others the familiar sounds that we have heard along The Way, has often been elusive. Insights gained through the journal writing discussions that have been a feature of this particular Tour have given us some ideas on how we might face this challenge.
Phrases such as ‘rocks littered with skinks’ and ‘a pyramid of hay’ have captured images in a new light. Some of us have even ventured to explore ‘haiku’, a short form of Japanese poetry.
Over the coming weeks we plan to compile a selection of some of the encounters that group members have committed into words, alongside photos that add a further layer of depth to our discourse.
In 2016 we plan to provide further opportunities to enable tour participants to combine creative writing with long distance walking along Camino trails. New itineraries along the Camino Portuguese commencing in Oporto and the Camino del Norte from Bilbao will be posted in July.
